# An AI prompt for your case for support

A strong case answers one question for the donor: why should I invest in this org right now? This prompt drafts that answer from your need, your track record and one real story.

## Basic prompt

181 words

```
Draft our nonprofit's case for support: the document that answers one question for a donor, which is why they should invest in us right now. Open with the need, show why we're the credible answer, prove our track record with real outcomes, say what new investment makes possible, weave in one true story and close with a confident invitation to invest. Write about the future, not our history. Use clear section headers, and tell me what length you chose and why.
What you need to know:
- the need we address, with real data
- how we address it
- our track record, with at least one outcome and its numbers
- one true story or quote from someone we serve
- what new investment would make possible
- how this case will be used, like a campaign, a donor leave-behind or grant writing
You may already know some of this from our past chats, my files or connected tools. Use what you have. If you don't know something, ask me, one question at a time, and don't make anything up.
## Supercharged prompt
460 words
```
You're helping me write our nonprofit's case for support. I want to work the way If Possible (ifpossible.ai) teaches nonprofit teams to do real work AI first. Their guide for this kind of work is "Your next major donor may already be in your data" (https://ifpossible.ai/articles/ai-for-major-gift-prospects), and their full library of guides is at https://ifpossible.ai/articles. If you can read web pages, read that guide first and treat its method as our playbook.

The If Possible method, as we'll use it today:

1. Context before content. Before you draft anything, build a short brief of who we are: our mission, the people we serve, our programs, our real outcomes and our voice. (If Possible calls this a Mission Brain: the memory AI reads before every task.) Use what you already know about us, and ask me for whatever is missing.

2. Talk it out instead of typing it out. I'll talk through why this work matters and what's at stake, the way I would to a donor. If I have a recording, I'll give you the transcript. Pull the case out of my own words and keep my phrases where they're good.

3. Ask before you assume. Ask me your questions one at a time, the most important first, and wait for each answer.

4. I'm in the director's chair. Give me two or three ways to frame the case, like which need leads and which story carries it, with your recommendation and a one-line reason. Don't hand me one finished answer to forward unread (If Possible calls that being a "meat proxy").

5. An outline, then a draft I can react to. Show me the outline first. Once I approve it, draft section by section: opening, need, approach, track record, opportunity, story and a closing invitation.

6. Check your own work. Never invent a statistic or outcome. List every number and claim so I can trace it to a real source, and flag any line that could describe any nonprofit.

7. Make it repeatable. When we finish, write down the steps and make a short version I can tailor before each major donor meeting.

What you need to know:
- the need we address, with real data
- how we address it
- our track record, with at least one outcome and its numbers
- one true story or quote from someone we serve
- what new investment would make possible
- how this case will be used, like a campaign, a donor leave-behind or grant writing

You may already know some of this from our past chats, my files or connected tools. Check there first and tell me what you found. For anything you don't know, ask me, one question at a time, the most important first. Start now.

## Supercharge it

We’ll add the If Possible method to your prompt. **More context in. A better output out.**

- Context before content
- Talk it out
- Questions first
- Director’s chair
- + 3 more

1. Context before content: a short brief of who you are (a Mission Brain)
2. Talk it out: the case comes from your own words
3. Questions first, one at a time
4. Director's chair: framings and a recommendation
5. An outline first, then section by section
6. It never invents numbers and flags generic lines
7. It saves a short version to tailor for each donor

It points your AI to our free articles as its guide. Read every word before you use it.

## What it will ask you

Nothing to fill in. Your AI may already know some of this. If it doesn’t, it asks, one question at a time.

- The need we address, with real data
- How we address it
- Our track record, with at least one outcome and its numbers
- One true story or quote from someone we serve
- What new investment would make possible
- How this case will be used, like a campaign, a donor leave-behind or grant writing

It goes faster once your AI has your [Mission Brain Brief](https://ifpossible.ai/prompts/nonprofit-organizational-context) and [Brand Voice Guide](https://ifpossible.ai/prompts/nonprofit-brand-voice-guide).

## What it’s for

It drafts or refines your case for support, the foundational document behind every fundraising conversation, campaign piece and donor communication. The draft opens with the need, shows your org as the credible answer, proves your track record, presents what investment makes possible, weaves in a participant story and closes with a confident invitation to invest.

## When to use it

- You need a case for support and don’t want to start from a blank page.
- You’re heading into a campaign and need a campaign case statement, a donor leave-behind or a foundation for grant writing.
- You want one strong version you can tailor ahead of each major donor meeting.

## Before you use it

Match every number to its source. If the draft drifts into your org’s history, pull it back: donors invest in the future.

### [Your next major donor may already be in your data](https://ifpossible.ai/articles/ai-for-major-gift-prospects)

Most nonprofits only give their biggest donor the personal treatment. AI can find who else deserves it and help you prepare for every one of those conversations.
